Yuzu Emulator, a Nintendo Switch emulator for PC and Android developed by the talented team at Tropic Haze LLC in 2018, and the same persons helped in shaping the future of Nintendo Switch emulation. It is designed with the aim to provide console-quality gaming to PCs and other platforms. Yuzu took a very short period of time to become the most powerful, advanced, and user-friendly emulator. There is no other emulator that is more advanced than Yuzu till now.
Nevertheless, Nintendo Switch emulation filed a lawsuit against Tropic Haze LLC in March, 2024. This lawsuit led to a $2.4 Million settlement which ended Yuzu’s official development. When the official repositories and downloads of the Yuzu emulator were stopped, a new community-oriented project called Suyu was launched. Suyu is an open-source fork of Yuzu that still is at the forefront of Switch emulation and pushes the limits further every day. Yuzu Emulator Timeline
Let us take you back through the path of Yuzu, the emulator which created a revolution in the emulation community:
- November 2018: The development of Yuzu to run Super Mario Odyssey brought it to the limelight when Kotaku published a picture of its progress, leading to a dialogue about the legality of emulation.
- 2019 to 2023: The Yuzu rapid development trip continued with graphics to enhance the presentation, multiplayer support, and Android compatibility, establishing it as the first-choice emulator for the Nintendo Switch.
- DMCA Actions: Nintendo conducted a campaign of issuing multiple DMCA takedowns against the videos and websites that were promoting illegal emulation or pirated content.
- February 26, 2024: The result of the lawsuit against Tropic Haze LLC was that Yuzu was officially discontinued.
- March 2024: Suyu, a new emulator was introduced by the Yuzu open-source code branch. This is the community’s commitment to the Switch emulation ongoing.
